The saying goes: "Never eat oysters in a month without an 'R' in it." or as P.J. O'Rourke put it "Never serve oysters in a month that has no paycheck in it." When you have the means, this is one of the best places to splurge.

Bar a huitres is one of my favourites - especially the fresh seafood stall outside. There's an illustration of it on my site, www.badaude.typepad.com.
The prices are actually very reasonable - try buying oysters in the UK...
