Kitsuné: Rock Out

Pamela Price writing for I V Y Paris

I'm pretty comfy cozy within the Hip-Hop spectrum of New York City's night club scene but my breakdancing heels were not prepared for the Parisian dance club music.

Your body must be trained to endure electronic music for hours on end. If you're ipod rarely blasts these types of sounds, then the universe of Kitsuné will surely make you want to put your aviators on, pop your collar and do the 80's robot.

After taking a gander at the Kitsuné website it took me a good while to figure out exactly what Kitsuné was all about. It was either a chic and rad boutique, a general music site, or a compilation of DJ's and artists. Turns out Kitsuné is all of the above, and then some.

Kitsuné Music is a French electronic music record label. They manage some serious electronic beats by some of the top electronic musicians and DJs. Not only is Kitsuné a record label but it's a package deal business, which runs alongside the Kitsuné Fashion Label created by Masaya Kuroki, Patrick Lacey, Gildas Loaec, Benjamin Reichen, Kajsa Stahl, and Maki Suzuki.

The boutiques are popping up in every major city in the world, but Paris is the home for the Kitsuné clothing line. Surprisingly, the clothes do not match the flavor of the music. The "skinny" jeans might work for the club scene, but most of the designs are just as simplistic as Lacoste's collared shirts.

Kitsuné really is quite the eclectic enterprise. You can walk the streets of Paris in their Banana Republic'ish ensemble, go home and take a bubble bath with a Kitsuné "Black Sesame Ice Cream" candle, and party hard later that night to the electronic dance beats, signed under the Kitsuné record label.

If you're not ready to Kitsuné yourself out, then begin by listening to some of their artists on MySpace. Perhaps you'll find yourself in a Parisian nightclub dancing to electronic techno... and enjoying it.
