La Belle Hortense - Alcohol and Intellectualism

Belle_hortense This is one of the best bars in the Marais and famously the place where Catherine Millet's "La Vie Sexuelle de Catherine M" was launched.  Combining books (it's a librairie) and wine is a great french combination if you ask me, plus there is a little gallery in the intimate lounge at the rear of the premises.   Just the place to meet an old flame....or pick up a new one.   Books stocked include french literary classics and tomes on art, psychoanalysis, history and culture.

This was one of my favorite bars! I moved from Paris a couple of years ago (I lived there for five years) and this was the place I'd go to from time to time with friends and always had a great time. For coffee, I head across the street to Le Fer au Cheval. Brings back sweet memories.

This is a wonderful place to sit and schmooze and read and have a glass of wine. The IQ of the clientel is, in my humble opinion, way higher than the degré d'alcool of anything they serve.
