L'Hôtel Des Académies Et Des Arts

Shakespeare_20 L'Hôtel Des Académies Et Des Arts is said to be a "Haven of artistic creation in Paris." It's design pays tribute to the life of the famous twentieth century artists who began their creations in the very neighborhood where the hotel is located.

You will notice the community of figure paintings and sculptures that inhabit the hotel, from the inside out. The figures were created by two French artists, Jérôme Mesnager and Sophie de Watrigant.

The hotel claims the ambience will be "reminiscent of the famous artists’ balls, the Grande Chaumière, the  Bullier, held during the Roaring Twenties, attended by artists such as Picasso, Fujita, Chagall and Man Ray"  - er, we'll see.  When a musician called recently to propose a concert/installation he was promptly cut off by the snotty woman who answered the phone before he was able to explain the "artistic ambience" he wished to create!

Not only is the hotel designed with artistic purpose, it is also has an extremely contemporary feel. Your view is your preference, choose a room that looks over the art lined courtyard, or choose to face the neighborhood street, which looks out on the Académie de la Grande Chaumière.  The original Grande Chaumière (large thatched house) was a watering hole where a particularly vigorous Polka dance became the notorious Can Can.

I've been to quite a lot of hotels due to my job but this one has a little je-ne-sais-quoi.
This is really unique how the owners let the artists "take over" the place.
