Christian Lacroix et ses Invités
As Paris begins its siesta for the summer, follow the pack and venture
outside the city. If you've still got an aesthetic itch to scratch (or
just couldn't find a train ticket to the beach), check out Christian
Lacroix's show at the Les Rencontres D'Arles Photographie.

This is a MUST for all photographers, after my first trip to the opening week events I plan to go every year. The breadth of exhibitions is amazing but the initimate size of the town makes the festival feel like a family affair. One can't help but strike up a conversation with one's table neighbours in cafes and bars and thecrowd is very international and knowledgeable. Hot tip for fun, atmosphere and price is Chez Nene (between Forum Hotel and Hotel Nord Pinus on the Place du Forum (drunken or hyper-friendly staff; power cuts, great seafood and a good spot to see the passing traffic)

having said all that, the artistic director's choices this year did not go down well with the Proffessionals....c'etait trop a la mode.

Yes! I went in august last year and the year before. I tend to avoid the hyper-activity of the opening week, but I adore this town - it feels italian to me. I stay at what used to be a monastery called Le Clôitre.
Crazy opening week? Quoi que...maybe next year.
