Friday night is dance night at La Fléche d'Or, where representatives of three sub-genres are taking the stage. The evening will commence with the digitized delivery of locals Jupiter, pick up the pace with Fortune's slick synth stylings, and then explode under the aural assault of pop-deconstructionists Curry & Coco.
Begin with your favorite flavored martini as soft lights and shimmering lamé envelop the room. Jupiter's playbook rests at the top of a musical evolution which has seen the emaciated funk of brass and bass disco, the cocaine fatigue of mid-period Blondie, and the dispassionate discordance of electroclash merge into a single beast. Ethereal vocals wind between dueling keyboards and canned beats, the perfect introductory soundtrack for settling into a groove without pulling a muscle.
Grab a bottle of beer before Fortune takes the stage. Integrating synth-pop textures into traditional rock this group serves as the mainstream middle relief between two extremes. Their growing number of singles and remixes roaming the internet suggest their forthcoming album will be processed and placed in a polystyrene package for all-nite dance clubs throughout Europe. An undemanding, if mediocre, way to maintain momentum.
Find the most caustic shot on the bar menu, or better yet airplane glue and a plastic bag. Curry & Coco close the show with their adrenal attack. Spiritual brothers to No Wave legends Suicide and synth terrorists The Screamers, this two-piece creates an astonishing cacophony utilizing nothing more than drums, keyboards and vocals. Building on a foundation of simple pop melodies Curry & Coco torment convention, twisting expectations through sheer aggression and intensity. It is not fashion rock, it is not MTV, it is the machine hemorrhaging humanity. Your body will be moved, you mind may very well be blown.
