VINGT ART Openings May 10-16

Does any of it really matter? Are we even in the same state of matter? And what is matter, anyways?... Find out the answers to these questions and more, in this week’s picks of Paris gallery openings. Tuesday’s opening at Galerie Christophe Gaillard throws vernissage visitors right into the philosophical thick of it all with their presentation of Laurent Jaffrennou’s exhibition Tectus. Layering different shapes and textures, the Parisian born artist creates complex assemblages that play upon human perspectives of space and shadow in a deeper exploration of the fragility of existence.

Continuing on our quest to find the meaning of it all,  Friday’s opening at Galerie Jocelyn Wolff examines the infinite potential of spatial relations, with their presentation of Hans Schabus’ multi-media interventions.  And in case your quest for the answer to the existential question “why” has yet to be solved, Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin promise to double your pleasure of philosophical fun with Saturday’s duo-openings of Yeondoo Jung’s Innerscape, a multi-media examination of perspective reality, and Peter Zimmermann’s Kith and Kin, a post-modern reinvention of action painting. To top off the week, Galerie Schleicher + Lange gets right to the heart of the matter (couldn’t resist!) with Evariste Richer’s L'Hypocentre a multi-formatted, Cartesian deconstruction of the human phenomenon. If, by Saturday night, you still haven’t figured out the answers to life’s mysteries, not to worry. France is keeping all the museums open till midnight for you to explore! Bon courage!
