Murano Urban Resort

Shakespeare_27 I heard rumours about bad customer service here (fancy being kept waiting in the lobby after a transatlantic flight for hours until your room is ready?) but the rooms are just divine and the bar is a lot of fun too.

Dining at Le Meurice Hotel

Shakespeare_40 For over-the-top opulence you won't go wrong at the the Hôtel Meurice, opposite the Tuileries gardens.  Make time for lunch and indulge your Louis Quinze fantasies. Michelin starred chef, Yannick Alléno has made it one of the most sought after tables in town since his arrival in 2003.  He won a third star before turning 40 - pas mal.

Hotel Sezz

Shakespeare_28 Something funky had to happen in the 16eme so a big round of applause for Hotel Sezz. A personal assistant service is available and the rooms are huge.  It’s the first hotel designed completely by Christophe Pillet, a protégé of Philippe Starck.

Kube Hotel, La Chapelle

Shakespeare Not many of the people I advised to invest in Max Dormy and Chateau Rouge took me up on it. Okay, it's for the fearless, long-term investor but speculators are supposed to have balls. If you want to be a pioneer you have to be brave.

Maybe now that "Kube" has opened they'll believe me.

Azzedine Alaïa "Hotel"

Shakespeare_2 Three 100m² apartments in a converted loft, not far from his Marais boutique.  The "king of cling" conceived each space, complete with kitchen.  Furnishings by Jean Prouvé, Jean Nouvel and Arne Jacobson complete the understated "non-hotel" concept.

Hotel Amour

Shakespeare_3 I had to give up my obsession with staying in boutique hotels because I rarely leave Paris -- except for long-haul trips to far-flung places where they don't have boutique hotels. But it would be fun to have a romantic evening in the 9th arrondissement, in the area once known as Nouvelle-Athenes...

Hotel du Petit Moulin

Shakespeare_6
The Hotel du Petit Moulin is a converted fin de siécle bakery in Le Marais, the oldest in Paris dating from Henry IV. And that's not all - this is where Victor Hugo used to purchase his baguettes........ The 17 room hotel is gorgeous and the interior is designed by my fave French colourist Christian Lacroix (darling). Who else could mix "zen" and Toile de Jouy? It has seventeen rooms, all different and starts at 180 euros a night.  Definitely where Eddie and Pats would stay.

Hotel Nesle

Shakespeare_7 This famous doss-spot is just as good as ever - a reasonably priced treat, a short stroll from the Seine. The murals in each chamber are worth seeing and one of the rooms includes a hammam. This charming accomodation supplies perfumed French linens and big showerheads. The hotel also offers a coin operated washer and dryer; and on the first floor, you have an entry towards a wild garden, where you can sit around a table and enjoy a bit of calm in the midst of the hustle bustle of St. Germain.

NO, they don't take credit cards for reservations, you have to just turn up.

Go to bed with...Art

Shakespeare_8 The Café au Lit is a gallery, and surprisingly enough, serves as a boutique hotel as well. Didier Fiuza Faustino designed the gallery/hotel, but many rooms are decorated with other young artists' work. In this clever combination of design one can relax amongst fascinating works of contemporary art.  Read more on I V Y paris' Gridskipper article
